Weight Loss Improves and Strengthens Intimate Relationships

When people think about weight loss, they typically think about the health benefits. However, new research has found that for the majority of people, weight loss impacts not only the physical body, but personal relationships as well. According to recent findings by North Carolina State University and University Texas at Austin, when obese individuals lose weight, their relationships often improve. The results indicated that most of the couples enjoyed vastly improved communication. They reported that before the weight loss their conversations about the topic were ineffective. They would discuss needing to lose weight but never followed through, or they avoided the topic altogether. After the weight loss, however, the couples reported that it was easier to openly discuss the topic. The majority of the participants also reported feeling closer to their partner, both physically and emotionally. They experienced more loving and positive interactions, and fostered a happier relationship ov

Healthy Foods That Prevent Overeating

Individuals who struggle with their weight often report difficulties finding a balance between eating until they are comfortably full, and overeating until they don’t feel well. There are a variety of factors that contribute to this challenge, but one of the main causes is a diet lacking in foods that promote fullness. To resolve this, I recommend incorporating the following high-protein, satiety-promoting foods into your diet, and assessing how they affect your snacking and overeating habits: Eggs or chicken. Eating eggs or chicken for breakfast or an afternoon snack is a terrific way to prevent overeating. In addition to being nutrient dense and low in calories, these foods will keep you full for a longer period of time and reduce your desire for unhealthy snacks. High protein shakes. Incorporating a high-protein shake into your diet is a great way to manage your calorie intake. They make an easy breakfast and will keep you full until your next meal, but make sure you read the lab

Weight Loss Surgery Lowers Your Risk Of Developing Type II Diabetes

For years the medical field has seen incredible results in treating type 2 diabetes with weight loss surgery. I’ve personally treated countless patients who no longer needed their diabetes medication after undergoing a weight loss procedure. Now new research shows that in addition to reversing type 2 diabetes, weight loss surgery can also significantly reduce your risk of developing the condition to begin with. For this study, researchers selected 2,100 obese individuals without diabetes who had undergone weight loss surgery. They then matched them for age, sex, BMI, and blood sugar levels with 2,100 obese individuals without diabetes who had not undergone weight loss surgery. After seven years, the obese individuals who had bariatric surgery had an 80% lower risk of developing type 2 diabetes than the control group that had no form of surgical intervention. This is something everyone should be aware of, as it’s important to know the negative effects excess weight has on your heal

What’s The Best Diet For Weight Loss?

I came across this and wanted to share with all of you before the holiday season approaches.  According to a recent study by the Journal of the American Medical Association, the best diet for weight loss isn’t necessarily low-carb or low-fat. It’s whichever diet you are able to stick with. In an analysis of data from 50 trials including 7,300 individuals, significant weight loss was observed with any low-carbohydrate or low-fat diet, with a very small weight loss difference between the diet programs. These findings support what doctors like myself have been telling our patients for years: There is no such thing as nor is there a need for a one-size-fits-all approach to dieting. If you intend to adopt a new diet, the one you’ll find success with is the one you can commit to for the long term. Furthermore, while you will lose weight with a strict diet or by cutting out entire food groups such as carbs or fats, it’s not necessary or healthy. Doing so can result in nutritional de

Your Weight Can Increase Your Risk Of Breast Cancer

New studies indicate that the link between weight gain and breast cancer is stronger than previously thought. According to the American Cancer Society’s latest research, women who are obese or overweight face a significant breast cancer risk when compared to lean women. Their studies found that women who gained 55 pounds or more after age 18 had almost a 50% greater risk of breast cancer, and women who gained 22 pounds or more after menopause faced an increased risk of 18%. Studies looking directly at postmenopausal breast cancer found that the risk is almost 1.5 times higher in overweight women and about 2 times higher in obese women. Furthermore, obesity is a risk factor for Type II Diabetes, which some studies have linked to a modestly increased risk for postmenopausal breast cancer. With such an established link between weight gain and breast cancer, your best option for reducing your risk is to lose weight and take immediate steps to improve your health. Here’s how to get sta
